This course is designed so that participants will be confident to develop a simple website with WordPress on their own by the end of the 10 hour course. It is a basic course only! Participants will complete a simple website. Learners provide their own computer. No software necessary.

Purpose of the Course: This course is designed so participants will be confident to develop a simple website with WordPress on their own by the end of the 10 hour course. It is a basic course only! Participants will complete a simple website!
– Participants will learn about…
o What makes a useful website, and what to avoid.
o How to sign up with wordpress.com.
o The information necessary to install wordpress.org at hosting site. (We are unlikely to each do this!)
o How to choose a theme and customise it, add pages, add posts, add media (images, documents, video)
o Some information on Search Engine Optimisation
Other Information: WordPress is the most popular website building tool. “WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool written in PHP. But in non-geek speak, it’s probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or CMS) in existence today.”
There are two sorts of WordPress sites, wordpress.com (all hosted by wordpress) and wordpress.org (where sites are hosted by an organisation other than themselves)
Pre-requisites (if any): Confident in using a computer (PC or Mac). Your computer must be capable of using a modern web browser, as all software for WordPress is used online only. No software will be downloaded to your computer!
Participants Must Provide: Their own computer (usually a laptop) at each session.
REAP May Provide on request (if any): A REAP Laptop may be provided on request if available. This will be confirmed prior to the course beginning. Please make this request before you register.
