If you have always liked the idea of fly fishing, or wanted to learn this skill, then these are the two fisherman to get you going.

In this six week course, John and Howard will guide you through everything you need to know to be a successful trout fisherman.  From equipment necessary, equipment that is nice to have, where to fish ( where do the fish lie) and how to fish, etc

Course Information for …   Fly Fishing for Beginners. #07358

Course Tutor(s):  John Pansters and Howard Thomson, are two very experienced members of the Wairarapa Fly Fishing Club, who are great teachers of the skills, and advocates for the sport.

Purpose of the Course:  This course will give learners the basic skills required to cast a fly and catch a fish.

  • Participants will learn ….
    • what is the basic equipment required for fly fishing
    • how to set up and prepare a fly rod for nymph, dry fly and wet fly fishing and the techniques  required to fish each method effectively
    • How to cast an overhead and a roll cast and to mend a fly line on the water
    • How to ‘read the water’ to maximise the chances of catching a fish

Pre-requisites (if any):  Ideally, learners should be confident in the water and be prepared to go into the water up to their knees. No fishing licence is required when they are doing the course, but they will need one if they wish to continue after the course is completed

Participants Might Provide:  Learners should bring along any old gear ,if they have it, and we can go through it at the start
