This six-week course will give you an introduction to the art of fly-fishing – learning to cast, choosing appropriate fishing gear, locating trout, as well as a fly-fishing session on a local river with members of the Wairarapa Fly-Fishing Club.

Course Information for Fly-fishing for Beginners, starting 19th October 2021

Purpose of the Course:
By the end of this six-week course, you will be able to:
• Apply the basics of fly fishing
• Choose the appropriate fishing gear
• Have an appreciation of the terms and use of language associated with trout
• Demonstrate practical aspects of casting, knot tying, tying of flies and stream craft
• Know which fly to cast into the water with a reasonable chance of catching a trout
Other Information: No fishing licence is required whilst doing the course but participants will need one if they wish to continue after the course is completed.
Pre-requisites (if any): Participants should be confident in the water and be prepared to go into the water up to their knees. Please note: This is a physical activity that involves an element of risk. While all possible measures are taken to prevent accidents or injury, please not that participation is at your own risk.
