Authors *Ali Foster and Catherine Cooper have written a book called, “Good for You Helen Dew”. It focuses on Helen’s sustainability work in the community and has strong messages for young audiences around how they can demonstrate leadership in sustainability in their own school and wider communities. It looks at the themes of consumerism and promotes recycling and buying local.
Students will spend the morning with the tutors and Garry Foster, organiser of Masterton’s Community Garden learning about an element of sustainability and the science behind that element.
The afternoon will be spent with Ali and Catherine working on a written or illustrated piece of work.
Ali and Catherine will also set a challenge to the students to pass on what they have learnt back at school and introduce a competition to all students.

* Ali Foster is passionate about writing picture books. Her first picture book, Elwyn’s Dream, illustrated by Viv Walker (Random House 2018) won the Mitre 10/ Conservation Foundation takahe picture book competition. She is also the author of The Eels of ANZAC Bridge, A Beam of Bright Light, Trompet and Trumbone and Sam’s Bath. Much of Ali’s writing is inspired by nature and the environment and she has a strong interest in preserving the planet for future generations
