Te Reo Tuatahi – Karanga Wānanga …   #07354

Course Tutor(s):  Jordan Bennett

I am a descendant of Te Ātiawa and Ngāti Tūwharetoa. I grew up in Taranaki and moved to Pahiatua in 2015 to be with my father’s side of family who have lived in Pahiatua for generations.

I work as a relief teacher at Tararua College but also support and teach Te Reo and kapa haka within school and community.

Experiences – I have been doing kapa haka since I was 5, and began tutoring at 16. At the age of 19 I fell in love with Te reo and teaching and began studying.

I studied Te Teo at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, Māori Performing Arts at Awanuiārangi, and am currently in my last year of completing my Bachelor of Bilingual Teaching at Te Wānanga o Raukawa.

Purpose of the Course: This wānanga is designed to provde an introduction to the art of karanga, grow confidence and number of people able to perform the role of karanga on our marae and within our community and teach people about the process of a powhiri.
