Course Information for WAI-41725 Upholstery Basics, Martinborough

Course Tutors: Judy Jeffery and Kath Wilkie

Purpose of the Course:  Experienced tutors teach the whole process of deconstruction of an old piece of furniture transforming it into a newly completed piece.

  • Participants will learn about…
    • how to deconstruct the old piece of furniture, remove the fabric and stuffing keeping what is needed for new pattern cutting
    • remaking all components from springs, stuffing, and top fabric
    • Sewing the new pieces to fit the furniture
    • finishing techniques to make your project look the best

Pre-requisites (if any):  BYO furniture project to remake.  This course is for beginners.   Not suitable for couches.

Participants Must Provide: Tutors will advise you of what tools are needed once you get started.  The tutors have a toolbox which they are generous in sharing however you may need your own tools (where possible) such as a staple gun, hammer, screwdriver, pliers, tacks and staples.

Upholstery materials are to be provided by the learner. Some upholstery materials can be purchased from the tutors.
