Annette Beattie is the manager of Wairarapa Library Servicework and has worked in information management for over three
decades, including in central and local government and the tertiary sector. Her leadership’s proven integral to many
library services throughout public libraries in New Zealand.

Corin Haines, Library and Archives Manager, Masterton District Library,has worked in senior leadership roles at the National Library of New Zealand, Auckland Council, and Manukau Libraries. He is a former President of the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa.

The Influence of Place

Wairarapa Word and Featherston Booktown present Wairarapa-based writers who have previously lived and written overseas. Madeleine Slavick (Hong Kong, USA, Germany), Catherine Cooper (Canada, Czech Republic, Sierra Leone), Lilla Csorgo (Canada, Hong Kong, Hungary) and moderator Steve Laurence (Almo’s Books) will discuss whether/how their writing is affected by place, landscape, language and culture.

Panellists will read aloud two pieces of their writing – one that speaks to Wairarapa, and the other to elsewhere – and will discuss their multi-cultural identities here in Aotearoa.
