Driver Licence Courses

Getting your drivers licence is a great step towards independence.

Here at REAP Wairarapa, we’ve helped hundreds of people gain their Learners licence and work through the steps to obtain their Restricted and Full licence through our courses.

We run courses throughout the year, and these are very popular.

Are you over 18? Do you need your licence or driving without one? Then this This course is aimed at adults over 18, and those NOT enrolled in school who are over 16.  If you are enrolled in school please look for our Youth Licence courses on our website.

Come along and be supported to learn the Road Code ready to sit the test at the AA. 

The course fee includes the cost of sitting the test.

Course Tutors: Rachael and Mark are experienced  tutors that will assist you to understand the NZ road rules. Both have National Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy, and can support learners with a variety of learning methods.

Purpose of the Course: This course will help you to become a safe driver by learning the NZ road rules and support you to become confident to sit your Learners Licence test.

Participants will learn about: -NZ Road code theory – NZ road rules and how to apply them – Practice learner tests in preparation for the learner licence test

Participants Must Provide: Proof of identity as used for your licence application, such as Birth certificate, Passport or other documents listed on the NZTA website. If you are not sure about ID, then ask us at REAP Wairarapa and we can help.

This course is aimed at adults over 18, and those NOT enrolled in school who are over 16.  All participants must have held their Learners Licence for the minimum requirement.

Come along and be supported to brush up on the Road Code, practice reverse parallel parking, blind spot detection and go for a 1 hour drive with a local driving mentor on the actual test routes, and we’ll even feed you. 

The course fee includes the cost of sitting the test.

The purpose of the Restricted Licence Course is a booster course to check that you are ready to sit your Restricted Licence Practical Test – this is not a driving mentor program that teaches you how to drive.

Purpose of the Course:  This course is designed to help you become a confident safe driver, and support you to pass the restricted driving test.

Participants will learn about:

  • You’ll refresh the Road Code rules
  • Practice reverse parallel parking
  • Learn about blind spots
  • Have practical driving with a local mentor on one of the actual test routes

Pre-requisites:  Learners licence for at least 6 months and not expired (5 years from date of issue – 2019 expiry dates have a 2 year extension) and enough driving hours that you are confident to sit the restricted test.  (recommended at least 100 driving hours)

Participants Must Provide:  Current drivers licence, a registered and warranted vehicle or request to use the instructors.


Are you over 18? Driving on the wrong licence or driving without one? Then this course is for you.  The course aimed at adults and those not at school.  

During the course you will revise the Road Code, learn about the conditions of driving on a full licence, brush up on practical skills such as emergency braking, and go on an actual drive of a typical test route with a driving instructor.

The purpose of the Full Licence Course is a confidence booster to check that you are ready to sit your Full Licence Practical Test – this is not a driving mentor program that teaches you how to drive.

Join experienced tutors and driving instructors to ensure you are confident to sit and pass your test.

Purpose of the Course: This course is designed to support you to pass the Full driving test.

Participants will learn about

  • Refresh the Road Code rules
  • Emergency Braking
  • Practical driving with a local instructor on one of the actual test routes

Pre-requisites (if any): 

  • 18 is the minimum age unless you have completed an approved advanced driving course, which reduces the time by 6 months.
  • Under 25 – Must hold your restricted licence for 18 months, or 12 months with an approved course.
  • Over 25 – Must hold your restricted licence for 6 months, or 3 months with an approved course.
  • Be a confident driver 

Participants Must Provide: Current drivers licence, a registered warranted vehicle, and you can book to use the instructors car.

REAP May Provide on request (if any): Vehicle to sit the test may be made available on request. Please let us know if you need manual or automatic.
